About Scott
I was born in Cortland, New York while my Dad was attending college there. I'm told I was born during a snow storm. My family moved
to Long Island shortly after I was born. I grew up on Long Island, NY in the town of Sayville and graduated from Sayville High School
in 1989. I'm proud to be a New Yorker and a Long Islander.
I attended the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo where I entered into their Industrial Engineering program. I started taking Geography courses while I was at Buffalo and found that Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was somewhat similar to the CAD courses I took in High School. I became interested in the visual and graphic aspects of GIS as well as the technical aspects. Eventually, I enrolled in the Geography department and received a Bachelors degree in Geography. I continued my studies in Buffalo and completed the Masters program there as well.
I moved to Denver while I was writing my Masters thesis. After two months, I started my first job as a GIS programmer/analyst with a local consulting firm. Eventually, I moved on to my next job with the USGS as a contractor. This is where I became interested in map serving technologies and the web. In November of 1999, I got a job with an engineering firm, contracted to do work for a telecommunications company as a web developer which is where my web mapping skills were truly honed. Since then, I've been doing GIS consulting and am now a senior level GIS consultant and architect. Currently, I still live in Denver and work for a large multi-national engineering firm as one of the senior geospatial developers and architect.
In December of 2004, I was certified as a GIS Professional (GISP), certification number 00049742, by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI). I also passed one of the Microsoft certification exams for C# programming. I have been a GIS instructor with the University of Colorado since 2005. To find out more about my professional skills, please see my resume.
On July 26, 2003, I was married to Ivonne Roche. I have a step-son, Asa and a son, Bryan who was born in 2004. My daughter, Issabella, was born in 2008. We also have a boxer named Timmy. Other than web development and GIS, my interests are music (I'm literally into every kind of music including rock, bluegreass, jazz, latino and others), physical fitness, weightlifing, local and craft beer, local restaurants, and anything that has to do with the ocean (seafood, beaches, sun).
